smoothie and nut butter love

Despite it being a typical freezing winter here, I have still enjoyed many smoothies. Some are fruity, but most are variations on my fave-peanut butter and banana.

Frozen fruit, no peanut butter, therefore not my favorite.

My parents have so many of these old Pom Tea glasses from when they first came out awhile ago! Joe was our little trend setter and bought them 😉

Classic Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie (practically famous!)

1 frozen banana (I cut it in chunks, put in container to freeze)

1 cup milk

1 scoop peanut butter

It’s easiest to blend if you add the milk first to your blender, then add banana, blend, add peanut butter, blend again. Creamy, dreamy, party in my mouth.

Protein Green Smoothie

  • 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder (I’ve used Jay Robb)
  • 2 large handfuls of spinach
  • 1/2 banana (cut in chunks and frozen)
  • Spoonful of peanut butter
  • 1 cup original almond milk (my fave is Silk brand)
  • About 10 ice cubes

I like to blend the milk, powder and spinach together first, then add the peanut butter, banana, and ice. I’ve also used sprinkles of guar and xanthan gums, but they really aren’t necessary-just add some volume and creaminess.

One of my favorite foods of all time: peanut butter. I like almond butter too, but not nearly as much as PB. In fact, I eat it everyday. That’s why I apparently have to stock up on it like the world is coming to an end:

Obsessed much?

So out of all of those, what’s my favorite? Costco Organic. Hands down. I think it has the best flavor, texture, and is a great price too. You do store it in the fridge after it is opened, but it stays so creamy-it doesn’t get all chunky-thick and the oil doesn’t separate. The ingredients: Dry Roasted Organic Peanuts and Salt. Plus it melts over hot oats-mmmmyaauumm. I do love that Almond Naturally More too-it has flaxseeds in it which I love the texture it gives.

Can I just say how amazingly blessed we are when we have cabinets full and food in the fridge? Wow God provides and blesses me way more than I realize or thank Him enough for. Also, we could have had just a few different kinds of food, but God created thousands! From raspberries to peanuts, my God is an awesome Creator.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

  1. YUMMERS! Shakes look great! I too, am a pb-holic. I love that skippy natural, and I love almond butter too! I have some justin’s I’ve tried, but I’m not too crazy about it. Have you been to that fondue place in Naperville? Cant remember the name, but that have a TON fo different types of PB! Banana Peanut butter, raspberry peanut butter, coconut peanut butter, chocolate coconut peanut butter, cinnamon peanut butter. literally, every kind you can think of. And the best part-you can sample every one for free! Sounds like a Lauren/Joe date this weekend…:)

    • Julie I didn’t care for the Justin’s either! Ok I have never heard of that place!!! I’m going to google it right now. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

  2. Nice variety of smoothies. I still need to try those gums. Can you believe I only started trying nut butters in my smoothies this summer? Crazy huh! Have you tried Sunbutter? For sure my favorite! Yes, we are very lucky to have cupboards full of food. In fact, the other day, I realized that I have enough! I need to focus on using what I have, rather than stopping at the store so frequently for ingredients that may not be necessary. wants vs. needs. Have a wonderful night! 🙂

    • Paula, same here! I didn’t start adding them in until the summer to! I have been wanting to try sunbutter-it is def. on my list. Yes, we have been eating the food out of the cupboards and fridge so not only am I not going to the store as much, but I haven’t had to throw out leftovers that we didn’t eat, or produce that had gone bad! It is such a shame to waste food, money, and time, so it’s been great!

  3. My favorite smoothie: greek yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, frozen raspberries, frozen banana and Chocolate GREEN Amazing Grass (or chocolate protein). It is thick and amazingly delicious! I love adding nut butters to my smoothies, it makes it more substantial not to mention DELICIOUS!

    • Your smoothie sounds perfect! I love the combo of raspberries and chocolate on ice cream, so I don’t know why I haven’t done it in a smoothie yet! Thanks Nora!

  4. Mmmmmmm………all look delish and would be perfect in my Magic Bullet. I’ll have to branch out from the Pnut Butter/Banana shake. Love you! Sharon

    • Isn’t that little thing great?! Definitely try blending in the spinach-you won’t taste it at all with the sweetness of the naner. Love you too!

  5. […] peel them and place them in a bag for frozen bananas, which we go through like crazy, what with green protein smoothies, peanut butter banana smoothies, and banana soft […]
